Discover the Heritage Site: Chateaubriand's Park and House and the Current Exhibition, Atala, 1801. An Illustrated Journey into the Heart of a Novel, a Major Literary Success by the Father of French Romanticism
Nestled in the heart of the Vallée-aux-Loups, within a park planted by Chateaubriand himself, the Maison de Chateaubriand opens its doors to you, inviting you to explore its cultural activities and exhibitions throughout the year. Owned by the Hauts-de-Seine Department and awarded the "Maison des Illustres" label, this extraordinary residence immerses you in a romantic atmosphere that retraces the life and career of its famous owner from 1807 to 1817: François-René de Chateaubriand.
Published in 1801, Atala, the first novel by François-René de Chateaubriand, tells the story of the thwarted love between two young Native Americans. It was met with immense success, reprinted numerous times, translated into most European languages, and inspired all forms of art. Together with its sequel René (1802), Atala sowed the seeds of Romanticism in France.
The exhibition offers a unique immersive experience into the universe of this groundbreaking novel.
