China and international cooperation

Jan 14, 2025 | 5:00 PM - 5:45 PM

Description

According to the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA), under the supervision of China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, 268 new museums were registered in 2023, bringing the total to 6,833. These institutions organized over 40,000 exhibitions and 380,000 cultural activities, attracting 1.29 billion visitors. Alongside this growth, China is committed to enhancing the quality of its offerings: exhibitions, immersive technologies, merchandise, and cultural programming. An internationalization strategy supports these efforts, promoting Chinese heritage and fostering cultural exchanges to strengthen mutual understanding with Western countries. In 2024, several initiatives marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France. Notable examples include the exhibition “The China of the Tang Dynasty” at the Guimet Museum and “Venice Revealed” at the China Grand Canal Museum in Yangzhou, presented by the Grand Palais Immersif. The conference focuses on collaborations between Chinese and French museums, addressing two key questions: How can Western museums support Chinese institutions in achieving excellence? And what contributions can Chinese museums make to the internationalization of Western institutions?
