Description

Immerse yourself in a rare and precious craft: intaglio engraving, recognized as part of the intangible cultural heritage. This iconic French philately technique involves carving an image at full size and in reverse directly into steel using a burin. The Musée de La Poste, custodian of the national philatelic heritage, preserves punches, original drawings, models, and design archives of all French stamps. Actively committed to promoting these skills, the museum supports their transmission through exhibitions, demonstrations, and meetings with engravers. Within this framework, the Musée de La Poste invites you to a two-part stamp engraving workshop: first, explore the temporary exhibition “From Steel to Paper: Perspectives on Engraved Stamps”, guided by curator Monika NOWAKA, Heritage Director. Then, move to the practical part: design and create your own stamp project. Participants are guided through the techniques and tools to engrave and print their own work, using an image of their choice or a model provided on site. You will be welcomed by Mr. Gilles COARDIER, Deputy Director of Communication at the Musée de La Poste. This visit is for French-speaking visitors only and is open to all curious minds with a passion for history, heritage, and philately.
